The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pickett shoots in and drives through. Coul sprawls well.
Coul shoots in for a takedown but Pickett shows good takedown defense.
Pickett throws a right and a left that both miss.
Pickett fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A head kick misses from Pickett.

and Pickett counters by clinching up.
Coul looks winded!
Pickett tries to pull guard but Coul holds him up against the cage and eventually Pickett drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Pickett. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pickett's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Pickett really is a fat lump.

Pickett has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Coul clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Coul rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Pickett postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Pickett gets to his feet. Coul looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's time! Pickett's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Pickett shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Coul but Coul pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Coul looks to land a body kick but Pickett moved away.
Pickett shoots for a double leg takedown but Coul sprawls well. He's pushed Pickett's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Pickett misses with the combination.
Coul throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pickett's waist but Pickett gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Coul off to one side.
Coul throws a body punch but Pickett moves out of range.
Coul avoids a punch combination nicely.
Coul is breathing heavily.
Coul tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pickett sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Coul somewhat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Pickett.
Coul takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Pickett looks up at the clock and then as Coul takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Pickett smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Coul's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Pickett stands up and beckons Coul to his feet.

Coul gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pickett to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pickett stands and steps away. Coul gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Andre Coul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pickett changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Coul looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Coul is looking for a sweep.

Pickett has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Coul is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Pickett yanks on the arm and Coul is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Pickett.
