PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Claudio Vaughn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Lupang Hinirang as his entrance music. Jon Jones will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Claudio Vaughn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vaughn's guard.
Jones trying to control but Vaughn is working from the bottom.
Vaughn doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Jones wants to control from the top but Vaughn keeps moving.
Jones passes Vaughn's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Jones is looking to take a break and control but Vaughn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Vaughn wants to get back to full guard.
Jones thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Vaughn moves into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones throwing strikes but missing.

Vaughn is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jones is working for a submission of some sort.
Vaughn moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jones prevents Vaughn from getting back to his feet.
Vaughn tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Vaughn trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.

Vaughn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jones defends it easily.
Jones trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Vaughn is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.
Vaughn avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Vaughn punching from the bottom - just letting Jones know he's still in a fight.
Jones postures up in Vaughn's guard and throws a big left but Vaughn blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Vaughn wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.
Jones trying to control but Vaughn is working from the bottom.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Vaughn, up you get!

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.
Vaughn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jones throws an elbow that misses. Vaughn uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Vaughn!

Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jones looks winded!

Jones has an active guard here but Vaughn has managed to pass into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones is trying to maintain the position but Vaughn is very close to passing his half guard.

Vaughn seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Jones has recovered full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jon Jones dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Vaughn gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Jones has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Vaughn is trying to keep an underhook but Jones manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jones wants to work for an arm triangle but Vaughn is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Vaughn is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.
Vaughn is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jon Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.
Vaughn manages to get to full guard.
Vaughn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Vaughn not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Vaughn throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Vaughn wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.
Vaughn is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
Vaughn is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Jones controls from within his opponent's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Jones swings for the body but Vaughn moves out of range.

Jones has Vaughn up against the cage in a clinch.

Jones works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Jones throws a strike but Vaughn rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones is trying to control the position but Vaughn postures up.

Jones striking off his back but it's not causing Vaughn any problems.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Vaughn's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Jones working for a triangle but Vaughn defends it easily.
Vaughn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Vaughn connects with a couple of short punches.

Vaughn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jones, up you get!
Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Vaughn scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Jones closes the distance looking to clinch
and Vaughn counters with a left and a right that stings Jones.
Jones misses with a few strikes there.

Vaughn throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jones tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Vaughn is in Jones's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vaughn keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jones's head.

Jones is working an open guard so Vaughn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vaughn throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Vaughn pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jones tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Vaughn manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Claudio Vaughn will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Vaughn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vaughn's head.

Vaughn keeping hold of Jones's head, controlling as best he can.
Jones thows a huge punch but Vaughn dodges it nicely.

Jones can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vaughn is looking to escape.
Vaughn holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Jones tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Vaughn is wriggling around trying to escape.
Jones throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Vaughn regains half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vaughn is trying to maintain the position but Jones is very close to passing his half guard.
Jones wants to take a breather but Vaughn is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Jones throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Jones seems to be looking for submissions.
Vaughn makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Vaughn.
Vaughn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jones's guard.

Vaughn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Vaughn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Vaughn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jones, up you get!

A head kick misses from Jones.

Jones moves into the clinch successfully.
Vaughn keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.
Jones tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Vaughn's elbow.
Jones with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Vaughn to the mat! Vaughn manages to get full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

I would just about give that final round to Jon Jones.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jon Jones decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
