PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Lamas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lamas comes into the arena with Run This Town blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Lamas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Jones!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for Lamas on that attempt.

Jones shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lamas is trying to defend but Jones finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Jones throwing shots but Lamas is blocking nicely.

Jones wants to work for an arm triangle but Lamas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Lamas wants to get back to full guard.

Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Lamas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jack Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.
Lamas shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Lamas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Lamas tries a low kick but Jones avoids it.
Lamas shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricardo Lamas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones looking to score a takedown here. Lamas is defending well but Jones drives through and ends up in Lamas's guard.
Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lamas's guard.
Jones passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Lamas!

Lamas is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Lamas is breathing heavily.
Jones thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Jones looking for a guillotine from mount but Lamas is having none of it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Lamas is looking to improve his position but Jones isn't that keen on the idea.
Jones thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Jones looking to secure an arm triangle but Lamas defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Jones dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lamas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lamas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lamas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jack Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.

Jones wants to sweep here but Lamas controlling him for the moment.
Lamas trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lamas can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Jones keeping moving, preventing Lamas from controlling successfully.

Lamas got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lamas has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.
Lamas tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lamas is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ricardo Lamas just wasn't active enough.
Jones looks for a takedown but Lamas sprawls well.
Lamas shoots in but no luck this time.
Lamas misses with a looping left.

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones is keen to just control but Lamas is a slippery customer.
Lamas is trying to stand back up but Jones is controlling him

Jones trying to pass the guard but Lamas defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Jones shoots in for a double leg but Lamas sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lamas fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricardo Lamas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lamas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Jack Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lamas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jones drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Jones is thwarting Lamas's attempts to control the position.
Jones frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lamas tries to improve his position but instead Jones has taken his back!

Jones is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Lamas knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Lamas for a finish.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lamas is working hard here to advance position.
Ricardo Lamas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Lamas is defending against the submission attempts here by Jones.
Jones should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
