Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenji Okabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jay Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenji Okabe!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter feints and then cracks Okabe's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Okabe down.
Nice body punch from Okabe.
Okabe lands with an uppercut that bounces Hunter off the cage and back into range.
Okabe moves into range and connects with a jab.
Hunter tries a head kick but it misses.
Okabe with a hook.
Hunter on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Hunter misses the shot to the body.
Okabe throws a shot to the body.
Hunter looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A clash of legs there as Okabe blocks the low kick.
Hunter moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Okabe lands with a shot to the body.
Hunter throws a nice outside leg kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hunter misses with a lunging right hand

and Okabe counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Okabe.
Okabe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hunter looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hunter is looking for a triangle here but Okabe uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Hunter gets back to half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Okabe connects with a nice short shot to Hunter's temple.
Hunter regains full guard. Nicely done.
Hunter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Okabe is one step ahead there.
Hunter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Okabe manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Okabe is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hunter defends well.
Hunter looking to sit in guard and control but Okabe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hunter distracts Okabe with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Hunter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hunter stands up over Okabe, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Hunter won't allow Okabe to sweep him here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hunter wants to control from the top but Okabe keeps moving.
Okabe wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kenji Okabe will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Hunter is looking to land body kicks.
A big right from Okabe misses.
Okabe steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hunter.
A decent looking cross lands there for Okabe.
Hunter throws out a leg kick but Okabe moves out of range and Hunter only half commits.
Okabe misses with a body shot
and Okabe takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Hunter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Okabe is looking to regain half guard here but Hunter keeps moving and retains side control.

Hunter has hold of Okabe's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Okabe seems comfortable defending it but Hunter has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Okabe is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Okabe is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Hunter couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jay Hunter!
