The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevenson misses with a looping right.
A head kick from Stevenson lands but Valdis takes it in his stride.
Stevenson throws a sloppy head kick and Valdis moves out of range easily.
Valdis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stevenson tries to avoid it but Valdis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stevenson to the ground. Stevenson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Valdis moves into range and clinches up with Stevenson.
Valdis fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Stevenson jumps guard but Valdis stands there with Stevenson around his waist. Stevenson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stevenson is pressed up against the cage. Valdis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Stevenson down to the mat. Stevenson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
