Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Malcolm Blackwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Guzman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Malcolm Blackwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Guzman!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Reed Andrews and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guzman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Guzman lands in his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Guzman wants to control from the top but Blackwell keeps moving.
Guzman working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jay Guzman wasn't active enough on the ground.

Guzman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Guzman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Blackwell keeps working.
Blackwell manages to get back to half guard.
Blackwell wants to control but Guzman is keeping busy.

Guzman wants to work for an arm triangle but Blackwell is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Blackwell has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Guzman is working away from the top position though.
Blackwell moves into full guard.
Blackwell manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Guzman wants to hold on but Blackwell pushes him away.

Guzman looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Blackwell passes into side control.
Guzman tries to buck Blackwell off but Blackwell is having none of it.

Guzman throws a left and a right that both miss
and Blackwell counters with a series of strikes. Guzman will be more careful next time no doubt.
Guzman tries a head kick but it misses.
Guzman just misses with a punch to the body.

Guzman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Guzman is looking to take a break and control but Blackwell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are battling for position here. Blackwell manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Guzman postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jay Guzman hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Guzman is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Blackwell.

Guzman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Blackwell to score an easy takedown into full guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Malcolm Blackwell wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Guzman shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Guzman showed some decent athleticism there.
Blackwell wants to control but Guzman is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Guzman uses his free foot to push down on Blackwell's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Blackwell.
Blackwell is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Guzman wants to control the pace but Blackwell is squirming around nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Blackwell slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jay Guzman will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


A chopping leg kick lands by Guzman.
Guzman moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Guzman goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Blackwell closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Guzman's guard.
Blackwell looking to sit in guard and control but Guzman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Blackwell avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Blackwell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Guzman lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Jay Guzman is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Guzman wants to take a breather but Blackwell is having none of it.

Guzman is stalling here. Blackwell is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Guzman seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Blackwell has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Jay Guzman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Guzman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
