Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary Vines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aslak Joikhaaja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aslak Joikhaaja will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Aslak Joikhaaja!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Colin Fotheringham and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vines gets caught napping as Joikhaaja dives in and scores a takedown. Vines manages to retain guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Joikhaaja with a flurry of punches that miss.
Joikhaaja in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Vines definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Joikhaaja accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Joikhaaja is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Vines looking for a guillotine here but Joikhaaja defends easily.
Joikhaaja working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Joikhaaja wants to control from the top but Vines keeps moving.

Vines has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Joikhaaja can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Joikhaaja pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vines is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Joikhaaja trying to control but Vines is working from the bottom.
Vines looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Joikhaaja has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Joikhaaja missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Joikhaaja advances to half guard.
Vines wants to get back to full guard.

Vines looking for submissions off his back.

Vines is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Joikhaaja pulls his head out easily.
Vines tries to get to full guard but Joikhaaja has control of the leg.
Vines gets full guard.
Vines wants to sweep here but Joikhaaja controlling him for the moment.
Joikhaaja passes Vines's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vines is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Joikhaaja slips a nice elbow through Vines's hands, connecting with Vines's forehead.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Joikhaaja is looking for a kimura but Vines is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Joikhaaja to get the leverage.
Joikhaaja working over Vines with some ground and pound. Vines looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Vines is looking to improve his position.
Vines regains full guard. Nicely done.
Joikhaaja postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Vines keeping moving, preventing Joikhaaja from controlling successfully.
Joikhaaja keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vines's head.

Joikhaaja wants to control from the top but Vines keeps moving.
Joikhaaja postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.


Vines is rocked!
Vines wants to sweep but no luck.
Oh Vines is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Joikhaaja scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Vines has his foot on Joikhaaja's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Joikhaaja works his way back into a safe position though.
Vines looking for a sweep. Not yet Vines, not yet.
Joikhaaja landing with the ground and pound.
Joikhaaja connects with a couple of short punches.
Joikhaaja loads up on a big left hand. Vines felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Joikhaaja looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Vines can't hide his disappointment, as Joikhaaja celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Aslak Joikhaaja!
