The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sykes fails with a takedown attempt.
Gonzalez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sykes counters with an inside leg kick.

Sykes looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Gonzalez regains full guard. Nicely done.
Gonzalez has a closed guard, preventing Sykes from standing up.
Sykes is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Sykes is looking to stand up but Gonzalez won't let him.
Gonzalez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
