Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Calvancante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trios Nicolopus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Trios Nicolopus will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nicolopus moves in looking to clinch but Calvancante pushes him off.
The fight stays on the outside here - Nicolopus looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nicolopus tries to clinch up.
Calvancante throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Nicolopus tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Calvancante is in Nicolopus's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Calvancante avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Nicolopus escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Calvancante gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Calvancante drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Calvancante jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Nicolopus is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Calvancante defends well.

Calvancante wants to control from the top but Nicolopus keeps moving.

Nicolopus had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Calvancante defends it easily.
Calvancante advances to half guard.
Calvancante is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Nicolopus is just riding it out for now. Calvancante eventually gives up the hold.

Calvancante seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nicolopus does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nicolopus manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Calvancante tries to hold on but Nicolopus postures up.
Calvancante is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Nicolopus is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Calvancante is bucking up trying to escape but Nicolopus cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Calvancante takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Nicolopus fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Calvancante is squirming around, avoiding Nicolopus's attempts to control the action.
Nicolopus is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Calvancante has managed to escape the submission attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
