Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lauren Pickett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniel Smith has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lauren Pickett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Smith!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Pickett looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Pickett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Smith misses with a double jab

and Pickett counters with a shoot takedown. Smith fights it but they end up in guard.

Smith is looking for a triangle but Pickett pushes his legs off easily.
Pickett postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Pickett stands up over Smith, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Smith should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Smith controls Pickett momentarily but Pickett frees himself.
Pickett knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.
Smith thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Smith is trying to control the position but Pickett postures up.

Smith looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pickett would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Smith wants to stand and escape but Pickett is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith looking for a sweep. Not yet Smith, not yet.
Pickett postures up.
Smith avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Smith escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pickett gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Smith is working an open guard so Pickett takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Pickett uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Smith.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith misses with a kick to the body.
Pickett tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.

Smith changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pickett looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Smith trying to control the action but Pickett is working from the bottom.
Pickett is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Smith throws a strike aimed at the side of Pickett's head but Pickett avoids it well.

Smith tries to score with some ground and pound. Pickett controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Smith misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Smith wants to control but Pickett is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Smith dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Smith gets a double leg takedown into Pickett's guard.
Smith with a flurry of punches that miss.
Pickett will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pickett working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pickett sees it coming and defends easily.

Smith lands a decent elbow from side control.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Smith has eaten all the pies!

Smith breaks Pickett's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Pickett escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Daniel Smith hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Smith throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Pickett is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Pickett has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Smith is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Pickett.

Smith has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith looks for the body kick but Pickett saw that one coming.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Smith is keen to just control but Pickett is a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Daniel Smith was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Pickett tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Pickett napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Pickett is letting Smith control him for a moment.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pickett keeps working.

Smith postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Smith wants to control but Pickett is keeping him busy.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Pickett is not content to let Smith control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Daniel Smith.

Smith moves into the clinch.
Pickett tries to pull guard but Smith won't allow it.

Pickett is fighting off a takedown attempt but Smith is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Pickett to the mat. Pickett regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Pickett throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Lauren Pickett has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Daniel Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Daniel Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
