PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerome Frazier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Clawnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clawnes is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: My name is MUD. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jerome Frazier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Clawnes!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frazier looks to land a right hand but Clawnes moved out of range.
Frazier throws a right and a left that Clawnes avoids nicely.
Clawnes is looking to clinch but Frazier is avoiding it.
Frazier throws a jab when Clawnes was well out of range.
Frazier throws a poor cross that misses

and Clawnes counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Clawnes.
Clawnes working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Frazier pulls guard effortlessly.

Frazier has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Clawnes is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Frazier fails to pull guard.
Clawnes misses with an elbow over the top.
Clawnes tries a knee to the head but Frazier blocks it.

Clawnes keeps control of Frazier as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Frazier wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Clawnes has him pressed against the cage.

With the fighters up against the cage, Clawnes throws an elbow but misses.

Clawnes tries to work over Frazier's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Frazier is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Clawnes pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Clawnes tries to score a body lock takedown but Frazier shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Jerome Frazier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Clawnes.

Frazier breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Frazier thows a body shot but no joy.
Frazier ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Clawnes moves away.

and Frazier counters with a series of strikes. Clawnes will be more careful next time no doubt.
Frazier misses with a series of wild punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Clawnes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Frazier swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Clawnes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Frazier manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Clawnes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Frazier rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Clawnes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Clawnes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Frazier sprawls well. Frazier wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Clawnes gets slowly back to his feet.

Clawnes tries to clinch but Frazier is having none of it.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Frazier wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Clawnes pushes off an throws an elbow but Frazier leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Clawnes lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Frazier breaks from the clinch.
Frazier throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Clawnes.
Clawnes swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Clawnes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Frazier misses with a body shot
and Clawnes counters with a three punch combo that has Frazier backing up. Frazier nods at Clawnes to acknowledge the strikes.
Clawnes misses with a double jab
and Frazier counters with a straight right hand.
Clawnes takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Frazier throws a series of punches but Clawnes avoids them all with ease.

Frazier throws a poor cross that misses
and Clawnes counters with a leg kick.
Clawnes throws a series of punches but Frazier moves out of range.
Frazier throws a hook to the side of Clawnes's head but Clawnes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Clawnes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Clawnes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Clawnes has gone for a leg lock! Frazier slips out almost immediately though and dives into Clawnes's guard.

Clawnes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Frazier's guard.
Frazier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Clawnes wants to stand but Frazier is controlling his posture from full guard.

Clawnes is pressing down on Frazier's thigh, looking to free his foot. Frazier is holding on for now.

Clawnes is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Frazier doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Clawnes.

Clawnes is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Frazier!

Thomas Clawnes decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
