PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Clinton Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robin Abedi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Clinton Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robin Abedi!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Nard Betker and Aafke Stam.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abedi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Drake tries to avoid it but Abedi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Drake to the ground. Drake escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Abedi tries to clinch

and Drake holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Drake is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Abedi to keep the fight standing.

Abedi breaks the clinch.
Drake shoots for a takedown but Abedi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Abedi gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Drake tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Abedi smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clinton Drake. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Abedi lands a right hook to the body.
Abedi shoots in looking for a takedown but Drake manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Abedi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Abedi tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Drake counters with a nice double leg into side control. Abedi won't be happy with that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Drake wants to control but Abedi is keeping him busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drake misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Abedi takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Abedi is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Drake throws an elbow but Abedi slips to the side and avoids it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Drake decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Drake blocks a head kick by Abedi.
Drake throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Abedi's waist but Abedi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Drake off to one side.
Abedi darts in trying to clinch

and Drake counters with a nice double leg into side control. Abedi won't be happy with that.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Drake postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
An elbow from Drake crashes against the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Drake trying to control the action but Abedi is working from the bottom.
Drake controlling from side mount.
Abedi tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Drake tries for a kimura but Abedi is defending well.
Drake wants to lay and pray for a moment but Abedi keeps working.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Drake has control of an arm but Abedi manages to advance to Drake's back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clinton Drake dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Abedi closes the distance and clinches.
Abedi is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Drake wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Abedi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A big head kick from Abedi and Drake is sent sprawling to the canvas!

Drake is rocked!

It looks like Clinton Drake has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Drake not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Oh Drake is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Abedi's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Abedi is stalling in the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drake is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Drake trying to control the position.
Abedi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Drake is keeping the position for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Clinton Drake wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Abedi has taken the fight to the clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Abedi fails to land.
Abedi lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Drake jumps guard but Abedi turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Abedi makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
A shot in the inside from Abedi.
Abedi misses with a hook from the clinch.

Abedi breaks the clinch.
Robin Abedi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Abedi dives in for a single leg takedown but Drake sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Drake.
Abedi is breathing heavily.
Abedi dips a shoulder and cracks Drake with a mighty uppercut! Drake falls back against the cage and Abedi unloads with a barrage of strikes! Drake is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Abedi screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
