Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Franco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erik Erikkson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paulo Franco has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Franco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Erik Erikkson!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Franco slips a jab and a cross from Erikkson.
A combination from Erikkson does no damage.
Erikkson throws a series of punches but Franco moves out of range.
Franco gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Erikkson closes the distance but Franco moves to the side
and Franco counters with an inside leg kick.

Franco shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Franco showed some decent athleticism there.

Franco decides to return to a standing position.
Good work by Franco as he checks the leg kick.
Some wild striking there from Erikkson.
Erikkson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Franco.
Erikkson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Franco counters with a good low kick that Erikkson was not able to check.
A right-left combo lands from Erikkson.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Erikkson tries to close the distance and clinch but Franco swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Erikkson misses with a low kick.
Franco really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Erikkson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Franco rushes Erikkson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Franco lands a nice uppercut.
Franco stalling the fight.
Erikkson has had enough of the clinch but Franco keeps him there for the moment.
Franco goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Erikkson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Franco's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Franco throws a hook but Erikkson avoids it easily.
Erikkson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Erik Erikkson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Erikkson tries to bum rush Franco with a series of wild strikes but Franco uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Franco closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Erikkson to the mat! Erikkson manages to get full guard.

Franco gets to his feet - Erikkson follows without any prompting.

Erikkson throws a series of punches but Franco avoids them all with ease.

Erikkson pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Franco back to the cage. Erikkson follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Franco takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Franco escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Paulo Franco is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Erikkson throws a half hearted mid kick.
Franco throws out a loose jab but Erikkson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Erikkson tries to close the distance and clinch but Franco swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Erikkson stalks Franco and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Franco's face. Franco staggers backwards, shaken.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Franco tries to bum rush Erikkson with a series of wild strikes but Erikkson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Franco moves out of range of the body kick.
Erikkson is looking to clinch but Franco is avoiding it.

Franco clinches up with Erikkson and pushes him back against the cage.

Franco tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Erikkson's elbow.
Franco will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Erikkson up against the cage.
Erikkson tries to pull guard but Franco holds him up against the cage and eventually Erikkson drops back down to his feet.
Erikkson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Franco gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Franco is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Franco has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Erikkson shoots in looking for a takedown. Franco tries to sprawl out of it but Erikkson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Franco manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Paulo Franco will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Erikkson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Franco moves out of range as Erikkson throws a body kick.
Erikkson fails with the takedown
and Franco counters with a stiff right hand.
Franco misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Franco throws out a loose jab but Erikkson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Erikkson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Erikkson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and Franco counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Erikkson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Franco changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Erikkson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Franco decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Paulo Franco.

Erikkson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Erikkson shoots for a double leg takedown but Franco sprawls well. He's pushed Erikkson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Erikkson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Franco. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
