Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yan Yang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Frederick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yan Yang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Frederick!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yang tries to clinch up.
Yang stuffs the takedown.
Yang moves in looking to clinch but Frederick pushes him off.
Frederick dives in for a single leg takedown but Yang sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Frederick is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Yang gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Yan Yang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Frederick.
Yang tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Frederick's elbow.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Frederick misses with a hook to the ribs.

Frederick has clasped his hands together around Yang's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Frederick is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Yang being controlled here, momentarily.
Yang wants to stand but Frederick is controlling the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Frederick lands a couple of elbows.
Yang has momentary wrist control but Frederick slips an elbow through the middle.
Yang will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Frederick in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Frederick stops Yang from standing up.
Frederick throws an elbow that misses. Yang uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Frederick's guard. Nice move by Yang!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Frederick looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yang is one step ahead there.
Frederick has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Frederick looking for a guillotine here but Yang defends easily.
Yang wants to get up but he can't break Frederick's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Yang is fighting to break Frederick's control of his arms but Frederick is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Frederick manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Yang manages to get himself to full guard.
Yang is looking to stand up but Frederick isn't so interested in that idea.

Frederick stays in close to Yang's body and controls the position.
Frederick stands up over Yang, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Frederick is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Yang tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Frederick misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
No joy there for Yang, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Yang fails in his attempt to clinch.
Yang throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Frederick clinches up with Yang and pushes him back against the cage.

Frederick turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Frederick manages to end up in side control.
Frederick lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Yang down.

Frederick cracks Yang with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Yang takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Paul Frederick has got the better of the ground game so far.

Frederick is staying tight to Yang's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Frederick creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Frederick controls the position from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frederick looks up at the clock and then as Yang takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Frederick smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Frederick remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Frederick is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Yang has escaped the position, nice work there.

Paul Frederick showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Yang tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Frederick manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
