Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jermaine Choake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Choake comes to the cage accompanied by Hans Zimmer - The Kraken. Flare has chosen Also Sprach Zarathustra as his entrance music. Rick Flare has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jermaine Choake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Rick Flare!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Topper Green and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Choake moves into range and clinches up with Flare.
Flare throws a head punch that misses.
Choake gets underhooks to prevent Flare's takedown attempt.
Choake blocks a body shot from Flare.
We've been hearing reports that Choake has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
A left hand lands to the body for Flare.
Flare goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Choake is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Flare pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Flare tries to work over Choake's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Choake prevents a takedown attempt there.
Flare goes for a takedown attempt but Choake pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Jermaine Choake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Flare.
Flare thuds his right hand into Choake's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Choake postures up in Flare's guard and throws a big left but Flare blocks it.

Flare is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Choake defends well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Choake throws an elbow that misses. Flare uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Choake's guard. Nice move by Flare!

Choake working for a triangle but Flare defends it easily.
Flare lands a couple of elbows.
Flare in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flare keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Choake's head.
Flare passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Flare working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Flare has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Choake manages to work his way to half guard, despite Flare's best efforts.
Flare thows a huge punch but Choake dodges it nicely.

Flare is just content to waste time from the top position. Choake takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Choake working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Flare doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Flare manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Flare throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Choake works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Choake looking to hit a scissor sweep but Flare is one step ahead there.
Flare stays in close to Choake's body and controls the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Flare accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Choake is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rick Flare will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Choake pivots, looking for a leg kick but Flare is out of range and Choake settles back down.

Choake darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Choake missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Flare is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Choake pulls his head out easily.
Choake trying to control the action but Flare is working from the bottom.
Choake thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Flare is looking to control Choake's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Flare avoid being mounted?
Flare works his way to full guard. Good work.

Choake avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Flare controls Choake momentarily but Choake frees himself.
Choake stands up over Flare, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Jermaine Choake overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Choake bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Choake wants to control from the top but Flare keeps moving.

Flare has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Choake can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Flare checks a leg kick.

Choake throws a low kick but Flare avoids it.

Choake lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Flare!

Choake lands a nice shot to the head.

Choake has hold of Flare's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Flare manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Flare takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Choake's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
