PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Batistuta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyson Kahn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Batistuta comes into the arena with Deftones - You've Seen The Butcher blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos Batistuta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tyson Kahn!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yuuki Gou and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kahn takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Batistuta slips under a jab.
Batistuta connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Batistuta blocks a jab.

Batistuta shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Batistuta wants to control but Kahn is keeping him busy.
Kahn wants to control but Batistuta is keeping busy.
Batistuta perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Batistuta has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Kahn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Kahn tries to roll over but Batistuta keeps him under control.

Batistuta is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kahn is just riding it out for now. Batistuta eventually gives up the hold.

Batistuta wants to free his trapped foot but Kahn is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kahn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Batistuta is taking a breather. Kahn says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Batistuta thows a huge punch but Kahn dodges it nicely.

Batistuta is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Batistuta wants to control but Kahn is keeping him busy.

Kahn keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Batistuta not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kahn is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Batistuta scores with a couple of nice shots.
Batistuta thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kahn's head.

Kahn regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Batistuta.

Batistuta drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Batistuta jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Batistuta might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kahn pulls Batistuta in to control the position.

Batistuta drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Batistuta jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Kahn is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tyson Kahn was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Batistuta tries to clinch but Kahn is having none of it.

Batistuta cracks Kahn with an open hand slap.
Batistuta lands a leg kick that knocks Kahn off balance momentarily.
Tyson Kahn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kahn throws a jab when Batistuta was well out of range.
Batistuta fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kahn avoids it really well and circles away.
Kahn defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Batistuta.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Batistuta, as that shot connected.
Batistuta throws a leg kick but Kahn checks it.

Batistuta has managed to clinch.
Batistuta jumps guard but Kahn turns him against the ropes and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Batistuta. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kahn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Batistuta loads up on a big right hand but Kahn slips the punch.
Kahn fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Batistuta on the side of the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Batistuta uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kahn.
Kahn throws a right hand that Batistuta ducks under and follows up with a left that Batistuta also avoids with ease.
Tyson Kahn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kahn takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Batistuta takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Kahn avoids a kick to the body.
Kahn misses with a looping left.
Kahn avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Batistuta throws a nice inside leg kick.
Batistuta looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Batistuta motions for Kahn to come forward. Batistuta throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Batistuta tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kahn is able to avoid easily.
Kahn chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Batistuta can pounce on him.
Batistuta displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kahn throws out the jab.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Kahn tries to clinch up but Batistuta circles away and keeps his distance.

Batistuta closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kahn did well to prevent Batistuta getting side control.

Batistuta wants to control from the top but Kahn keeps moving.
Batistuta has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Kahn is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Batistuta is controlling him.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Batistuta accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Batistuta is in close to Kahn's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Batistuta trying to control the position from guard on top but Kahn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kahn looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

We're going to have a standup here because Carlos Batistuta wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Batistuta gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Batistuta goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Kahn connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Batistuta's hands.
Batistuta moves away from the strike by Kahn.
Kahn throws a hook to the side of Batistuta's head but Batistuta sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A left lands for Kahn.
Carlos Batistuta is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Batistuta throws a solid leg kick but Kahn takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Batistuta.
Kahn moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Batistuta misses the jab.
Kahn scores with a crisp jab that stopped Batistuta in his tracks.
Batistuta cracks Kahn with a good jab.
Kahn motions for Batistuta to come forward. Kahn throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Batistuta dives in and scores a takedown into Kahn's guard.

Batistuta trying to control the position from guard on top but Kahn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Batistuta not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Tyson Kahn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Batistuta has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
