Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Delmar Mullen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Gracie throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mullen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gracie seems to be looking for submissions.
Gracie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Mullen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mullen tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.
Gracie wants to stand up but Mullen has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Gracie lands with a punch from half guard.
Gracie has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mullen is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Gracie sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Gracie prevents Mullen from getting the reversal.
Gracie wants to control the pace but Mullen is squirming around nicely.
Mullen really is a fat lump.
Mullen is trying desperately to improve position.

Gracie looking to control but Mullen is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Gracie controlling the pace for now.

Gracie is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Mullen has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Mullen!

Mullen throwing strikes from guard but Gracie blocks nicely.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Royce Gracie hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Mullen counters by clinching up.
Gracie is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Mullen landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Mullen manages to pull guard.
Gracie wanted to stand there but Mullen had control of the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gracie stands up over Mullen, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royce Gracie dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mullen misses with a takedown attempt
and Gracie counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Gracie throws a half hearted mid kick.
Mullen takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.


It looks like Delmar Mullen has been cut.

Gracie pushes Mullen up against the cage in a clinch.
Gracie has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mullen after a bit of a struggle.

Gracie manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Gracie is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mullen pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Delmar Mullen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Royce Gracie.
Gracie swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Gracie tries to pull guard but Mullen forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Gracie gets underhooks to prevent Mullen's takedown attempt.

Mullen breaks the clinch.
Delmar Mullen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Gracie counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gracie.
Mullen trying to control the position but instead, Gracie has worked for underhooks and has pushed Mullen into the cage.
Mullen is struggling to control the position.
Mullen jumps guard but Gracie turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Gracie wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mullen has him pressed against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mullen is trying to stall.
Gracie wants to break free but Mullen has control.
Gracie on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Mullen taking a breather.
Gracie tries to break free but Mullen pushes him back against the cage.
Mullen tries to circle away but Gracie has him pinned against the cage.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Gracie. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Mullen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Gracie closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gracie lands in his opponent's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mullen is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Gracie seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Mullen can't keep his opponent in guard - Gracie advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Gracie not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Royce Gracie has got the better of the ground game so far.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Mullen has managed to free his arm - good work.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Mullen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gracie tries to stand and escape but Mullen is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royce Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Mullen shoots and misses
and Gracie makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Gracie doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Mullen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gracie's guard.
Mullen lands a couple of elbows.

Mullen has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Gracie to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Mullen is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Gracie pulls down on the head and he's put Mullen to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Royce Gracie!
