PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Short Low (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Low comes to the cage accompanied by Short People. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Short Low!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jake Penn!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Penn does no damage.
Low checks a leg kick.
Penn's coach down at WarZone Training Facility 1 was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Penn's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Penn lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Low circles away quickly and effectively.
Penn lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Low shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Penn pinned against the cage. Penn gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Low. Penn does a little dance to reset his feet.
Low throws a nice inside leg kick.
Low ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Penn moves away.
Low shoots for a double leg takedown but Penn sprawls well. He's pushed Low's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Penn throws a body punch but Low moves out of range.

Low throws a hook but Penn blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Penn swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Low counters with a single leg into guard. Penn didn't expect that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Penn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Low pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Penn is keeping the position for now.
Low with a nice head shot there.

Low drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Penn dives on top into guard.

Low looking for a guillotine here but Penn defends easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Low looking for a sweep. Not yet Low, not yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Penn wants to stand but Low is controlling his posture from full guard.

Low had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Penn defends it easily.
Low wants to sweep but no luck.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Low pushes a forearm under Penn's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Penn is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Short Low!
Short Low spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
