PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Raijin Kage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mick Mutters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mutters is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Hand of Doom. Mick Mutters has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raijin Kage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mick Mutters!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mutters tries to clinch

so Kage counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Kage thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kage trying to control the position from guard on top but Mutters is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kage passes Mutters's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Kage trying to mount his opponent but Mutters defends it.
Kage is thwarting Mutters's attempts to control the position.

Kage is working for a submission of some sort.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mutters pushes Kage off looking to stand but Kage dives back in and keeps control.
Kage is keen to just control but Mutters is a slippery customer.
Mutters wants to get back to full guard.
Kage wants to take a breather but Mutters is having none of it.
Mutters wants to get back to his feet.
Kage throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Mutters wants to get back to his feet.
Mutters is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kage trying to control the action but Mutters is working from the bottom.
Mutters wants to get back to his feet.

Kage is looking for a kimura but Mutters is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kage to get the leverage.
Kage stops Mutters from getting back to his feet.
Kage wants to control but Mutters is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kage trying to control the pace.
Kage wants to control but Mutters is keeping him busy.
Kage is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mutters is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Raijin Kage wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Mutters tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Kage counters with a nice double leg into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kage trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mutters is trying to keep Kage in close.

Kage trying to control but Mutters is working from the bottom.
Kage throws a strike but Mutters rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Mutters tries to free his leg and advance position but Kage is retaining full guard.
Kage looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mutters working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mutters controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mick Mutters hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Mutters goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Kage takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Mutters wants to clinch but Kage slips to the side

and Kage counters with a shoot takedown. Mutters fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mutters wants to stand up but Kage is controlling him.
Mutters not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mutters is looking to stand up but Kage isn't so interested in that idea.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kage looking to sit in guard and control but Mutters gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mutters is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raijin Kage dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kage keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Mutters is trying to control but can't.
Kage moves into full mount! Mutters won't be happy about that!
Mutters is in a horrible position here. Kage smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mutters is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Mutters working to try and regain half guard.
Kage can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mutters is looking to escape.

Kage with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Kage throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Mutters really wants to buck Kage off and get back to his feet.

Kage is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Kage extends the arm and Mutters is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Raijin Kage!
