PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Benny Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vice Combonon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Benny Reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vice Combonon!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, David Schapiro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Combonon fails with the takedown.

so Reyes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Combonon is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Combonon tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Combonon looking for a guillotine here but Reyes defends easily.
Reyes wanted to stand there but Combonon had control of the position.

Combonon fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Reyes, pushing him back against the cage.
Reyes is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Reyes manages to break the clinch.

Combonon has Reyes up against the cage in a clinch.
Reyes is trying to pull guard but Combonon has him pressed against the cage.

Combonon's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Reyes jumps guard but Combonon turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Combonon has closed the distance and engaged Reyes in a clinch.
Reyes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Combonon walks away with a smile on his face. Reyes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Combonon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reyes but Reyes pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Combonon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Reyes stuffs the takedown attempt from Combonon. Combonon gets slowly back to his feet.
Reyes tries to clinch but Combonon moves out of range.

Reyes tries to pull guard but Combonon holds him up against the cage and eventually Reyes drops back down to his feet.
Combonon is trying to maintain a safe position but Reyes gets an underhook and turns Combonon into the cage.

Reyes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Combonon, up you get!
Combonon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Reyes manages to avoid it.
Benny Reyes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Vice Combonon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Reyes wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Combonon lands a nice uppercut.
Reyes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Combonon just stands there and leans against the cage.
Combonon keeps control of Reyes as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Combonon lands a right hand that snaps the head of Reyes backwards.

Combonon jumps guard and drags Reyes to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Combonon has an active guard here but Reyes has managed to pass into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Combonon regains full guard. Nicely done.

Combonon pulls Reyes in to control the position.
Reyes wants to get up but he can't break Combonon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Combonon manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Combonon misses with a takedown attempt - Reyes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Combonon shoots in but no luck this time.

Reyes is looking to clinch but Combonon is avoiding it.
Combonon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Reyes tries for a takedown but Combonon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Reyes dives in and grabs Combonon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Combonon pushes down on Reyes's head and hops out.
Combonon fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Reyes fails to land the takedown.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Combonon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Reyes as he jumps to the side.

Vice Combonon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Combonon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
