PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clinton Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anand Pawar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anand Pawar acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Clinton Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Anand Pawar!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Taro Takaoka and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pawar fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pawar throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Pawar tries to clinch but Duran is having none of it.

Pawar tries to keep at a distance but Duran has taken the fight into the clinch.
Pawar should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Duran jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pawar walks away with a smile on his face. Duran gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Duran has managed to clinch.
Duran fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Pawar lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Duran keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Pawar not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Pawar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Duran knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Pawar is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duran taking some punishment here, with Pawar in his half guard.
Pawar trying to control the action but Duran is working from the bottom.

Pawar is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pawar tries to stand and escape but Duran is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Duran is trying to get back to full guard.
Duran knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pawar on the ground.
Pawar wants to pass to mount but Duran is defending the position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Duran is refusing to be controlled, as Pawar sits in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Anand Pawar.
Pawar tries to close the distance and clinch but Duran swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pawar has a takedown stuffed.
Anand Pawar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown by Duran or perhaps it was just good defense by Pawar which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clinton Duran. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Duran shoots in looking for a takedown. Pawar tries to sprawl out of it but Duran keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pawar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Duran fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pawar avoids it really well and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pawar drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Pawar throwing strikes from guard but Duran blocks nicely.
Pawar slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Pawar tries to advance to mount but Duran denies him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Duran is not content to let Pawar control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anand Pawar dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Duran fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pawar avoids it really well and circles away.
Pawar misses with a looping left.
Pawar shoots in and drives through. Duran sprawls well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Duran looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Duran feints and as Pawar raises his hands in defense, Duran changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Pawar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Duran's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duran can't keep his opponent in guard - Pawar advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Pawar has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Duran defend it? Pawar steps over the head and cranks it - Duran is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Pawar!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Anand Pawar!
An out of breath Anand Pawar thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
