Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Muhammed Lawal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaun Styles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Muhammed Lawal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shaun Styles!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Styles's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Styles duly obliges.


It looks like Muhammed Lawal has been cut.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Lawal.
Styles misses with a few strikes there.
Lawal throws a lazy body kick
and Styles counters with a left to the body.
Lawal throws a right and a left that both miss.
Lawal looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Styles is fending him off so far but Lawal persists. Nope, Styles circles away and we're back to standing.

Styles clinches with his opponent.
Lawal misses with a hook from the clinch.
Lawal wants to break free but Styles has control.

Lawal escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A looping hook to the body misses from Lawal. Styles does a little dance to reset his feet.
Styles looks to land a combination but Lawal avoids it well.

Lawal gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Lawal's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Lawal wants the takedown. Styles is fighting it off but Lawal persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Styles's guard against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Styles controls Lawal momentarily but Lawal frees himself.
Lawal knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Styles on the ground.
Lawal wants to get up but he can't break Styles's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Lawal decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Styles throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Lawal throws a leg kick but Styles sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Styles throws an off balance right hand
letting Lawal counter with a right hand.
Lawal misses with a head kick.
Styles avoids the head kick by Lawal.

Lawal has Styles up against the cage in a clinch.
Styles lands with a left to the head.

Styles pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lawal looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Styles misses with a takedown
and Lawal makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Lawal has Styles up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Lawal manages to break the clinch.
Styles scores with a kick to the body.
Styles throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Lawal.
Some bone on bone action there as Styles checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Styles ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lawal moves away.
Lawal throws a head kick but Styles moves out of range.

Styles shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lawal's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lawal wants to stand but Styles is controlling the position.

Lawal has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Styles is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Lawal is breathing heavily.
Lawal looking to stall.

Lawal fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Lawal has had enough of the clinch but Styles keeps him there for the moment.
Styles tries to pull guard but Lawal holds him up against the cage and eventually Styles drops back down to his feet.

Lawal breaks the clinch.
Styles shoots in for a takedown but Lawal shows good takedown defense.
Muhammed Lawal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shaun Styles.
Styles lands a high kick!
Styles shoots in and drives through. Lawal sprawls well.
Styles showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Lawal.
Lawal defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Styles.
Styles throws a shot from downtown. Lawal moves away and avoids it.

No joy there for Lawal, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Styles shoots for a takedown but Lawal saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Styles shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lawal but Lawal pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Lawal closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lawal decides to stand back up.

Lawal fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Styles to the ground. Lawal is now in Styles's guard.
Lawal has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Styles is proving hard to escape from.

Styles looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lawal has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lawal tries to stand but Styles is controlling from the bottom.

Lawal decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Styles, up you get!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Styles is working an open guard so Lawal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Lawal tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Styles swivels and escapes.
Muhammed Lawal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Styles shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Styles on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Lawal moves into the clinch.
Lawal jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Styles walks away with a smile on his face. Lawal gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Lawal rushes Styles and presses him up against the cage.
Styles doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Styles gets control of Lawal's arms and successfully pulls guard. Styles will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lawal would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Lawal stands and steps away. Styles gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Styles misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Styles is breathing heavily.
Lawal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lawal shoots for a takedown but Styles saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Muhammed Lawal. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Styles looks for a takedown but Lawal sprawls well.
Lawal throws a one two combo.

Lawal moves into the clinch.
Styles jumps guard but Lawal turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Lawal's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Lawal lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Styles backwards.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lawal has Styles pressed against the cage, preventing Styles from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Styles creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Styles gets caught napping as Lawal dives in and scores a takedown. Styles manages to retain guard.
Muhammed Lawal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lawal would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Lawal wants to stand and escape but instead Styles has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Styles prevents Lawal from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Styles is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Shaun Styles hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Lawal lands with a nice combination. Styles backs away looking to recover.
Styles shoots in and drives through. Lawal sprawls well.
Lawal looks to score with a jab to the body but Styles is just out of range.
Styles scoring well with a low kick there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Styles escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lawal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lawal.

Styles tries to clinch but Lawal moves out of range.

and Styles counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Styles.

Styles is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Lawal to keep the fight standing.

and Styles counters with a good low kick that Lawal was not able to check.

Styles drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lawal pulls his leg out and moves away.
Styles tries to clinch but Lawal is having none of it.

Lawal closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Styles did well to prevent Lawal getting side control.
It looks like Lawal is going to stand back up.
Lawal wants to stand up but Styles manages to regain full guard.
Lawal wants to stand but Styles has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Styles working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lawal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Styles is tightening it up a little... Lawal has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Lawal reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Lawal taps out! Nice BJJ there by Styles!
