PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Edmund Allenby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alfredo Benebidez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Allenby comes into the arena with Keep Moving blaring out of the sound system. Benebidez is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Make War. The key to victory for Edmund Allenby has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Edmund Allenby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alfredo Benebidez!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Allenby darts in trying to clinch

and Benebidez counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Allenby!
Benebidez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Allenby is trying to control Benebidez's posture but Benebidez avoids it.
Benebidez takes a little break here. Allenby wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Alfredo Benebidez has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Allenby tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Benebidez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Allenby displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Benebidez.
Benebidez shoots in but Allenby avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Allenby throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Allenby moves into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Benebidez goes for a takedown attempt but Allenby pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Edmund Allenby has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alfredo Benebidez.
Benebidez swats away the attempt to clinch by Allenby.
Allenby tries to clinch but fails miserably

so Benebidez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Benebidez controlling from the top position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Alfredo Benebidez hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Benebidez swats away the attempt to clinch by Allenby.
Allenby misses with a series of wild punches.
Allenby tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Allenby fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Benebidez to the ground. Allenby is now in Benebidez's guard.
Benebidez pulls Allenby in to control the position.
We've been informed that Benebidez has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Benebidez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Allenby is one step ahead there.
Allenby is fighting to break Benebidez's control of his arms but Benebidez is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Let's hope that Benebidez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Alfredo Benebidez.
Allenby misses with a few strikes there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Allenby fails with an attempt to clinch.
Allenby lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Allenby tries to clinch there but Benebidez circles away.

Allenby shoots in and gets a takedown into Benebidez's guard.
Benebidez looking for a sweep. Not yet Benebidez, not yet.
Benebidez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Allenby manages to get himself to full guard.
Benebidez is stalling in the full guard.
Allenby is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Benebidez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Alfredo Benebidez.
Benebidez fails with a takedown attempt.
Allenby throws a nice looking combination but Benebidez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Benebidez is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Allenby's half guard.
Benebidez looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Benebidez moves nicely into side control.
Benebidez is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Allenby's shoulder. That is not cool.
Allenby knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Benebidez on the ground.
Alfredo Benebidez has got the better of the ground game so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Benebidez is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Allenby is trying to escape and Benebidez transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Allenby is forced to tap! Nice work there by Benebidez! Very nice indeed!
