PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roman Burza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burza kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Guns N' Roses - Welcome To The Jungle. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roman Burza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Garcia misses the target.
A slapping leg kick lands for Burza.
Burza lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Garcia misses with the combination.
Burza will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Burza darts in looking for a takedown but Garcia gets double underhooks and turns Burza into the cage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Garcia throws a hook but Burza blocks it.
Garcia fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Burza manages to avoid it.
Burza changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Garcia swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Burza goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Roman Burza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Garcia gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Garcia has his foot on Burza's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Burza works his way back into a safe position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Roman Burza will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Burza looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
We've been told by Burza's head coaches at Franklin D. Bluth Memorial Supergym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Burza avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Burza lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Garcia circles away quickly and effectively.

Burza will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Garcia shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Burza but Burza pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Burza looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Garcia is fending him off so far but Burza persists. Nope, Garcia circles away and we're back to standing.

Burza shoots in looking for a takedown. Garcia tries to sprawl out of it but Burza keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Garcia manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Donk. Burza catches Garcia right on the button with a cross.
Burza shoots for a double leg takedown but Garcia sprawls well. He's pushed Burza's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Burza can't keep his opponent in guard - Garcia advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Garcia postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Burza is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Garcia, into his guard.

Marcelo Garcia showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Burza drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Garcia manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Burza has Garcia in his guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Roman Burza.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Garcia lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Burza has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Burza and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Burza throws a wild body kick that Garcia sees coming a mile off.
Burza tries to bum rush Garcia with a series of wild strikes but Garcia uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Garcia throws a right hand that Burza ducks under and follows up with a left that Burza also avoids with ease.
Garcia slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Burza scores with a one two! Garcia had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
