PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Taneli Hauki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Hoe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoe is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Ivanhoe theme. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Taneli Hauki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ivan Hoe!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hoe scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hoe tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Hauki is trying to get back to half guard.
Hoe postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Hoe creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hauki sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Hauki takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Hauki avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hoe.
Hoe throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Hoe has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hoe creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hauki sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Hoe wants to control but Hauki is keeping him busy.
Hauki sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Hoe thows a huge punch but Hauki dodges it nicely.

Hoe is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Hoe looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hauki wants to improve his position but Hoe is controlling well.

Hoe is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Hoe closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hauki quickly recovers to half guard.
Hoe is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Hoe is keen to just control but Hauki is a slippery customer.

Ivan Hoe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hauki thuds his right hand into Hoe's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Hauki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hauki steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hoe.
A slapping body kick lands there for Hauki.
Hauki throws a shot from downtown. Hoe moves away and avoids it.
Hauki connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Hoe momentarily.

Hoe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hauki does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Hoe misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
