PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Faustino Joyner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terence Willis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Faustino Joyner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Terence Willis!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joyner slips a jab from Willis.

Willis darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Willis looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Willis is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Joyner reverses the position - he's now on top in Willis's guard.
Joyner really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Joyner is in close to Willis's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Joyner wanted to stand there but Willis had control of the position.

Willis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Willis pulls Joyner in close to prevent any damage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Joyner misses with a head kick.
Joyner throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Willis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Joyner looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Willis controls the position.

Joyner is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Willis has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Willis looking to control and managing it successfully.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Joyner is squirming around, avoiding Willis's attempts to control the action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Terence Willis hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Willis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Willis wants to control from the top but Joyner keeps moving.
Willis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Willis advances to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terence Willis dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Willis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Joyner was covering up waiting for the punch and Willis finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Willis wants to control from the top but Joyner keeps moving.
Willis tries to free his leg and advance position but Joyner is retaining full guard.

Willis is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Willis engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Terence Willis hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Willis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Joyner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Willis defends it easily.

Joyner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Willis stays in close to Joyner's body and controls the position.

Willis passes Joyner's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Joyner wants to get back to his feet.

Willis wants to free his trapped foot but Joyner is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Willis controlling the pace.
Willis is trying to control. Joyner wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Terence Willis was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Willis drives through with a takedown into Joyner's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Terence Willis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Joyner throws a sloppy head kick and Willis moves out of range easily.

Willis shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Joyner manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Terence Willis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Willis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
