PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Point Fighter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan comes to the cage accompanied by Nirvana - The Man Who Sold the World. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Genghis Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Point Fighter!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khan rushes Fighter and presses him up against the cage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Fighter.
Khan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Fighter pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Fighter is pressed up against the cage. Khan has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Fighter down to the mat. Fighter avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Fighter misses with a straight right.
Point Fighter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fighter works Khan's body with a nice hook.
Fighter fails with the takedown

and Khan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Khan stands and steps away. Fighter gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've been hearing reports that Khan has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Fighter closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Khan did well to prevent Fighter getting side control.

Khan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fighter pulls his head out easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

BOOM! Fighter connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Fighter is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Khan knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Khan for a finish.

My spies in Mano`s Elite BJJ Gym inform me that Fighter has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Khan tries for a takedown but Fighter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Khan drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Fighter uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Khan slips a jab and a cross from Fighter.
Khan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fighter sprawls well. Fighter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Khan gets slowly back to his feet.
Khan slaps away a takedown attempt from Fighter, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Khan closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Fighter's guard.

Fighter wants to sweep here but Khan controlling him for the moment.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fighter is staying active underneath Khan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Khan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Fighter's head.

Khan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fighter sees it coming and defends easily.

Khan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Khan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Fighter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Khan.

Khan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Fighter is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Khan.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fighter seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Khan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Point Fighter has got the better of the ground game so far.

Fighter is looking for a kimura but Khan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fighter to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Point Fighter will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Khan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Khan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fighter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Genghis Khan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Genghis Khan showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Fighter has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
