PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spiral Stairs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rung Thrym (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thrym has chosen The Rains of Castamere as his entrance music. Spiral Stairs had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Spiral Stairs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rung Thrym!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thrym throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Thrym scores with a nice body kick.
Thrym scores with the left hand. Stairs knows he should have avoided that one.
Stairs misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thrym lands a nice looking body shot.
Thrym throws a series of strikes that have Stairs backpedaling.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Horrible takedown by Stairs or perhaps it was just good defense by Thrym which made him look bad.
A head kick misses from Thrym.
Thrym uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Stairs has time to react.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Stairs crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Thrym - the referee stops the clock and Stairs gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Thrym. Stairs manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Stairs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Thrym tries to avoid it but Stairs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Thrym to the ground. Thrym escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Stairs is breathing heavily.
Thrym fails to land with a series of punches.
Thrym's coach down at Axia Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Thrym's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stairs throws a combination that misses

and Thrym counters with a takedown into side control.
Thrym wants to stand but Stairs is controlling his arm.
Thrym is staying tight to Stairs's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Stairs is looking to regain half guard here but Thrym keeps moving and retains side control.
Thrym tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Stairs is trying to get back to half guard.
Stairs stops Thrym from passing to mount.
Stairs sneaks back into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stairs wants to sweep but Thrym has passed to side control!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stairs is looking to regain half guard here but Thrym keeps moving and retains side control.
Thrym wants to stand but Stairs is controlling his arm.
Stairs tries to bench press Thrym off him but Thrym keeps the position.
Thrym taking a breather here.
Stairs tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Thrym wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Thrym tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
You can see the frustration on Stairs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Stairs is working hard here to advance position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Thrym tries to stand but Stairs is controlling his head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rung Thrym dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Thrym connects with a leg kick. Stairs looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Thrym lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Thrym lands a right hook to the body.
Stairs looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Thrym turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
An inside leg kick lands from Thrym.

Thrym lands a big head kick that sends Stairs tumbling to the mat! Thrym takes a step backwards and waves Stairs back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Spiral Stairs has been cut.
Nice body punch from Thrym.
Stairs throws a hook to the side of Thrym's head but Thrym sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Thrym connects with a leg kick. Stairs looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Thrym closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Stairs! Thrym dives in looking to finish! Stairs is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rung Thrym!
An out of breath Rung Thrym thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
Spiral Stairs was interviewed post fight and said 'The fight's not over until my opponent tests clean for drugs...and given his history in that regard, this fight is probably a No Contest.'.
