PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Neal Mcintosh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terence Willis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Neal Mcintosh has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Neal Mcintosh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Terence Willis!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Willis drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Willis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mcintosh has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Willis has managed to get both his arms back between Mcintosh's legs - danger averted.
Mcintosh is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Willis stands and throws Mcintosh's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mcintosh wants to get back to his feet.
Willis remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Willis tries to move into full mount but can't pass Mcintosh's legs.
Willis content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Mcintosh wants to control but Willis postures up.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

You can see the frustration on Mcintosh's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Mcintosh is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Willis has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Willis in side control, just content to control the action for now.
It looks like Willis might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Let's hope that Willis has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Terence Willis was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Willis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Willis showed some decent athleticism there.

Mcintosh really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mcintosh is trying to stand up here but Willis is controlling him well.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Terence Willis.
Willis throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Willis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mcintosh avoids it really well and circles away.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Willis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mcintosh's waist but Mcintosh gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Willis off to one side.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Willis or perhaps it was just good defense by Mcintosh which made him look bad.
Neal Mcintosh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Terence Willis.
Willis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mcintosh sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Willis somewhat.

and Willis counters with a single leg into guard. Mcintosh didn't expect that.

Willis stops Mcintosh from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Willis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Willis passes Mcintosh's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Willis is taking a breather. Mcintosh says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Terence Willis.
Mcintosh shoots in for a takedown but Willis shows good takedown defense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Willis closes the distance and clinches up with Mcintosh, looking for a takedown. Willis pushes Mcintosh against the cage but Mcintosh circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Willis shoots in but Mcintosh avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mcintosh shoots in looking for a takedown. Willis tries to sprawl out of it but Mcintosh keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Willis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Willis closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Willis lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Willis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Mcintosh trying to control the position.
Willis prevents Mcintosh from getting back to his feet.
Willis tries to free his leg and advance position but Mcintosh is retaining full guard.
Willis looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Terence Willis has got the better of the ground game so far.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Terence Willis wasn't active enough on the ground.

Willis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Mcintosh is trying to get back to his feet.
Willis tries to move into full mount but can't pass Mcintosh's legs.
Mcintosh is trying to control Willis's posture but Willis avoids it.
Willis moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Willis tries to advance to mount but Mcintosh denies him.
The referee asks Willis politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Willis prefers to stall for the moment though.

Willis tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Willis stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Terence Willis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Willis is defended easily by Mcintosh.

Willis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mcintosh looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Willis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcintosh keeps working.

Mcintosh stops Willis from passing to mount.
Willis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mcintosh pushes Willis away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Willis gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Terence Willis has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mcintosh fails with the takedown

and Willis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mcintosh won't be happy with that.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Willis advances to mount.
Willis controlling the pace for now.
Mcintosh tries to improve his position but instead Willis has taken his back!
Willis is riding his opponent, not letting Mcintosh buck him off.

Willis has got one arm under Mcintosh's chin. This could be trouble... Mcintosh trying to control the other hand but Willis gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Mcintosh has tapped out! The fight is over!
