PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Len Deleon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nai Khanomtom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khanomtom has chosen Do or Die as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Len Deleon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nai Khanomtom!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khanomtom tries to close the distance and clinch but Deleon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Khanomtom throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Khanomtom wants to clinch but Deleon slips to the side

and Deleon counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Khanomtom's guard now.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Deleon landing some decent shots from guard.
Deleon controls from within his opponent's guard.
Deleon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Khanomtom for as long as he can get away with.

and Deleon counters with a three punch combo that has Khanomtom backing up. Khanomtom nods at Deleon to acknowledge the strikes.

and Deleon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Khanomtom wants to get back to his feet but Deleon passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Deleon is working for a submission of some sort.
Deleon working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Deleon in particular looking to stall.

Deleon decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Khanomtom closes the distance but Deleon moves to the side

and Deleon counters with a single leg into guard. Khanomtom didn't expect that.

Deleon gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Khanomtom fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Deleon swats away the attempt to clinch by Khanomtom.

Khanomtom pushes Deleon up against the cage in a clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Deleon goes for a takedown attempt but Khanomtom pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Khanomtom misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Deleon counters with a three punch combo that has Khanomtom backing up. Khanomtom nods at Deleon to acknowledge the strikes.

Deleon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Khanomtom defends it nicely.
Khanomtom is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Khanomtom lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Deleon circles away quickly and effectively.

Deleon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Khanomtom rushes Deleon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Deleon has control of Khanomtom's left arm, preventing Khanomtom from doing any damage.

Deleon scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Deleon forces Khanomtom back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Deleon has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Khanomtom uses from the top position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Len Deleon.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Deleon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
