PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Borat Sagdiyev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Slyker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sagdiyev comes into the arena with Mamaliga blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Slyker's choice of entrance music: It's Amazing by Kanye West. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Cain Slyker was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Borat Sagdiyev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cain Slyker!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slyker fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Slyker tries to bum rush Sagdiyev with a series of wild strikes but Sagdiyev uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Slyker darts in looking for a takedown but Sagdiyev gets double underhooks and turns Slyker into the cage.
Slyker goes for a takedown attempt but Sagdiyev pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Borat Sagdiyev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Slyker.
Slyker shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sagdiyev as he avoids it easily.
Slyker darts in looking for a takedown but Sagdiyev gets double underhooks and turns Slyker into the cage.

Sagdiyev breaks from the clinch.
Slyker looks to land a combination but Sagdiyev avoids it well.

Slyker feints and as Sagdiyev raises his hands in defense, Slyker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Slyker cracks Sagdiyev with a solid left hand.
Slyker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Slyker missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Slyker accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sagdiyev preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Slyker content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Slyker working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Sagdiyev working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Slyker.

Slyker throws a big right hand that misses.
Sagdiyev lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Slyker!

Slyker really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Slyker tries to hold on but Sagdiyev pushes him away.
Slyker is desperately trying to improve his position but Sagdiyev has a good base and remains in mount.

Sagdiyev get's back to his feet.
Slyker shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sagdiyev but Sagdiyev pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Slyker lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Slyker has a takedown stuffed.
Slyker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sagdiyev circles away.
Slyker shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sagdiyev as he jumps to the side.
Sagdiyev leaves Slyker with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
No luck for Slyker with that takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slyker shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sagdiyev pinned against the cage. Sagdiyev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sagdiyev stuffs the takedown attempt from Slyker. Slyker gets slowly back to his feet.
A punch combination from Slyker misses.
Sagdiyev slaps away a takedown attempt from Slyker, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Slyker fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Slyker shoots in looking for a takedown but Sagdiyev manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Slyker's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Slyker throws a left and a right that both miss
and Sagdiyev counters with an outside leg kick.
Slyker looks winded!
Slyker tries for a takedown but Sagdiyev sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Slyker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Slyker dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Slyker throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Sagdiyev counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Cain Slyker has been cut.
Nice sprawl there from Sagdiyev as Slyker shoots in.
Slyker tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sagdiyev defends well and Slyker ends up having to push Sagdiyev into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Sagdiyev breaks from the clinch.

Slyker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Slyker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Sagdiyev gets back to half guard.
Slyker missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Sagdiyev moves into full guard.
Sagdiyev has his hands on Slyker's head, controlling the position.

Slyker with a flurry of punches that miss.
Slyker throws an elbow that misses. Sagdiyev uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Slyker's guard. Nice move by Sagdiyev!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sagdiyev gets to his feet. Slyker looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Slyker shoots in but no luck this time.
Borat Sagdiyev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Slyker.
Slyker moves to clinch but Sagdiyev breaks away
and Sagdiyev counters with a stiff right hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sagdiyev stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sagdiyev wants it to stay on the feet.
Slyker shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Slyker tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sagdiyev swivels and escapes.
Slyker fails with the takedown.
Slyker looks for a takedown but Sagdiyev sprawls well.
Slyker is breathing heavily.
Slyker has a takedown stuffed.
Slyker shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sagdiyev as he avoids it easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Slyker is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sagdiyev's half guard.
Sagdiyev is controlling Slyker's trapped leg to prevent Slyker from advancing to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sagdiyev is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Slyker's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Slyker's back!

Sagdiyev has Slyker's back but decides to stand back up... Obviously he fancies his chances in the standup department!

Slyker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Slyker throws a strike but Sagdiyev rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sagdiyev wanted to stand there but Slyker had control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Borat Sagdiyev will probably get the nod.

Slyker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sagdiyev tries to avoid it but Slyker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sagdiyev to the ground. Sagdiyev escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Slyker pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Sagdiyev back to the cage. Slyker follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Slyker shoots for a takedown but Sagdiyev saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Slyker looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Borat Sagdiyev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Slyker.

Slyker will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Slyker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sagdiyev tries to avoid it but Slyker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sagdiyev to the ground. Sagdiyev escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cain Slyker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Slyker misses with a double jab
and Sagdiyev counters with a nice low kick that buckles Slyker's knee momentarily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Slyker throws a left and a right that both miss
and Sagdiyev counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Slyker takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Slyker misses with a combination
enabling Sagdiyev to counter with a crisp jab.

Slyker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Borat Sagdiyev is winning the standup battle so far.
Slyker misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Slyker misses with a takedown
and Sagdiyev counters with a huge overhand right that connects right on the temple, sending him crumpling, face first to the floor! This one is all over! What a knockout!
