Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tanner Pond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bob Backlund!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pond throws a jab when Backlund was well out of range.
Backlund gets a takedown into half guard.
Pond trying to control from the bottom.
Pond is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Backlund is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Pond controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Pond wants to improve his position but Backlund is controlling well.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Tanner Pond wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Pond misses with a wild body shot.
Backlund throws a low kick but it's checked well by Pond.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Backlund tries to move into range but Pond moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Backlund throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
The crowd cheers as Pond lands an impressive looking overhand right. Backlund doesn't seem phased though.
Backlund is rocked!
Backlund fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Backlund pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Pond drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Backlund right on the button. Backlund goes down! Pond follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Pond gets the win via TKO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tanner Pond!
