Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Virgil Buchanan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Terrell Grant!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Steve Montenegro and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Buchanan feints and as Grant raises his hands in defense, Buchanan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Grant throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grant escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Buchanan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Grant throws his legs up looking for a submission but Buchanan uses it to pass to side control.
Grant is looking for a sweep.
Grant struggling a bit here.

Buchanan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Grant is looking to reverse the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Buchanan tries for a kimura but Grant is defending well.
Grant tries to buck Buchanan off but Buchanan is having none of it.
Grant regains half guard.
Grant is looking for a sweep. Buchanan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Buchanan is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Grant is looking to improve his position.
Grant trying to control but Buchanan postures up.
Buchanan trying to control from half guard but Grant is working away.

Buchanan is thwarting Grant's attempts to control the position.

Grant looking for submissions off his back.

Buchanan is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Buchanan prevents Grant from improving his position.
Grant slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Buchanan's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Grant escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Buchanan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Buchanan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Grant, up you get!
Buchanan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Grant counters with a nice double leg into side control. Buchanan won't be happy with that.
Buchanan is breathing heavily.
Grant tries to advance to mount but can't.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Buchanan gets back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Grant throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Grant is nestled in close to Buchanan, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Grant is looking for a kimura here.
Grant controlling the pace.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terrell Grant dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Buchanan shoots in for a takedown but Grant shows good takedown defense.
Grant stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Grant wants it to stay on the feet.
Grant throws a leg kick
and Grant takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Buchanan shoots in for a takedown but Grant shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Virgil Buchanan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Grant takes a swing at Buchanan's ribcage but misses.

Buchanan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Grant is trying to defend but Buchanan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Grant gets back to full guard.

Grant is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Buchanan is aware though and is defending well.
Buchanan wants to control from the top but Grant keeps moving.

Grant is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Buchanan defends well.
Buchanan wants to get up but he can't break Grant's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Buchanan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Buchanan throws a big elbow that misses.

Grant is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Buchanan rolls with it to try and escape but Grant cranks on the arm and Buchanan is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Terrell Grant!
After winning the bout, Terrell Grant thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
