PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hilio Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggie Smalls (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes into the arena with AC/DC - Back In Black blaring out of the sound system. Hilio Gracie is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hilio Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reggie Smalls!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smalls scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Smalls tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gracie swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gracie misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gracie displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Smalls throws out the jab.

Smalls tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gracie sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smalls somewhat.
Gracie looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Gracie closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gracie lands in his opponent's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Gracie is in close to Smalls's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smalls does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Gracie is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Smalls is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Gracie blocks a head kick by Smalls.
A looping hook to the body misses from Smalls. Gracie does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gracie scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smalls tries to clinch there but Gracie circles away.
Gracie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smalls tries to avoid it but Gracie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smalls to the ground. Smalls escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Smalls scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gracie doesn't seem bothered though.
Smalls displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gracie throws out the jab.
Gracie has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Smalls finds it's way round the side to connect with Gracie's head.
Smalls fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gracie has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

No joy there for Gracie, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hilio Gracie will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
