PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mohamed al Hadj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaito Rin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). al Hadj kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Hypnotized Lebanon. Rin has chosen Death Before Dishonor as his entrance music. The key to victory for Mohamed al Hadj has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mohamed al Hadj!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaito Rin!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rin blocks a head kick by al Hadj.
al Hadj misses with a leg kick.
al Hadj misses with a wild body shot.
al Hadj throws a leg kick

and Rin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rin.
al Hadj controls Rin momentarily but Rin frees himself.
al Hadj will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Rin looking to sit in guard and control but al Hadj gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

al Hadj stands up from guard. Let's bang!

That's one minute gone in the round.
al Hadj misses with a straight left.
al Hadj fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rin manages to avoid it.
Good standup being displayed there by al Hadj as he connects with a hook.
al Hadj thows a leg kick but Rin checks it

and Rin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
al Hadj trying to keep a closed guard but Rin is proving a slippery customer.
al Hadj manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Rin wants to hold on but al Hadj pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rin is desperately trying to improve his position but al Hadj has a good base and remains in mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
al Hadj tries to control but Rin wriggling away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rin tries to lock up and control but al Hadj gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
al Hadj is looking to stand but al Hadj has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rin throws the left hand but al Hadj avoids the punch easily.
al Hadj tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Rin is able to avoid easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rin rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and al Hadj counters with a lovely shot to the body.
al Hadj needs to keep his hands up - Rin had a free shot at his head there.


It looks like Mohamed al Hadj has been cut.
Rin moves out of range as al Hadj throws a body kick.
al Hadj avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mohamed al Hadj is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
An inside leg kick lands from al Hadj.
Mohamed al Hadj seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A jab from Rin finds it's way through al Hadj's defenses.
al Hadj throws a body punch but Rin moves out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rin drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Rin throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kaito Rin will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Mohamed al Hadj's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A head kick misses from al Hadj.
al Hadj waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rin.
al Hadj thows a body kick. Rin tries to catch it but that hurt him.
al Hadj misses with a kick to the body

and Rin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in al Hadj's guard.
Rin with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rin won't allow al Hadj to sweep him here.
Rin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. al Hadj swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rin is stalling in the full guard.
Rin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
al Hadj tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rin throws a big right hand that misses.
Rin works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Rin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but al Hadj does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rin trying to mount his opponent but al Hadj defends it.

Rin is working for a kimura but al Hadj is defending it quite comfortably.
al Hadj keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for al Hadj!

Rin goes for an armbar but al Hadj turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from al Hadj.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rin lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for al Hadj!
al Hadj is looking to improve his position but Rin isn't that keen on the idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rin looking to finish with strikes here!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rin looking to control but al Hadj is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rin landing shots from mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
al Hadj is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Rin trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kaito Rin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


al Hadj tries to clinch up.
al Hadj takes a swing at Rin's ribcage but misses.
al Hadj throws the left hand but Rin avoids the punch easily.
al Hadj's jab looks to have found its range, popping Rin under the eye.
al Hadj lands a nice looking kick to the body. Rin takes a step back to recover.
al Hadj connects with a body shot that sends Rin's belly button to the back.
al Hadj misses with a jab to the body

and Rin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rin.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

al Hadj gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as al Hadj checks a leg kick.
al Hadj lands with an uppercut that bounces Rin off the cage and back into range.
al Hadj moves forwards but Rin connects with a nice, crisp jab.
al Hadj lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
al Hadj moves in looking to clinch but Rin pushes him off.
Rin takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
al Hadj is looking to chop away at Rin's legs.
Rin walks into a straight right hand from al Hadj.
al Hadj tries a head kick but it misses.
Mohamed al Hadj has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

al Hadj throws a head kick that half lands.
al Hadj pulls out of a head kick attempt.
al Hadj tries to land a body kick

so Rin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
al Hadj is striking but Rin is not phased and passes to half guard.
al Hadj is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
al Hadj is working hard here to advance position.

Rin is looking for submissions but instead, al Hadj has regained full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rin wants to control from the top but al Hadj keeps moving.
Rin works a leg free and moves into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rin wants to free his trapped foot but al Hadj is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Rin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, al Hadj has managed to free his arm - good work.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mohamed al Hadj.
I think Rin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
