PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ray Fayth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santiago Colon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fayth comes into the arena with Awry Decade - Aisle of Denial blaring out of the sound system. Santiago Colon has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ray Fayth's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ray Fayth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Santiago Colon!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Sosuke Kotani and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colon throws a series of punches but Fayth moves out of range.
Colon tries to clinch up.
Fayth has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Ninjin no Tamanegi in the buildup to the fight.
Colon misses the jab.
Fayth uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Colon.
Colon throws a nice inside leg kick.
Colon looks to throw the jab but Fayth is out of range.
Colon misses with a straight left.
Colon scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Colon moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Colon thuds a left hand into Fayth's body.
Colon lands a nice shot to the body.

A combination from Colon does no damage.
Fayth ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A big right from Colon misses.
Colon scores with the left hand. Fayth knows he should have avoided that one.
Fayth walks into a straight right hand from Colon.
Colon scores with a nice body kick.
Colon pivots, looking for a leg kick but Fayth is out of range and Colon settles back down.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Colon.
Colon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Colon connects with a high kick.
Colon misses with a shot to the body

and Fayth counters with a single leg into guard. Colon didn't expect that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Fayth postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Fayth trying to control but Colon is working from the bottom.
Colon looking to control but Fayth passes into half guard.
Fayth with the ground and pound but Colon uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Fayth wants to control from the top but Colon keeps moving.
Fayth has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fayth stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Colon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Fayth trying to control the position from guard on top but Colon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Fayth working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Colon's head.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Fayth wants to control from the top but Colon keeps moving.
Colon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Fayth trying to control the position from guard on top but Colon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Colon wants to sweep but no luck.
Fayth trying to control but Colon is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Ray Fayth wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Fayth on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Colon works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Colon throws the left hand but Fayth avoids the punch easily.
Colon throws a push kick but Fayth slaps the foot to one side.
Colon lands with a hook. Fayth tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Colon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Colon works Fayth's body with a nice hook.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Colon turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Nice jab there from Colon.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santiago Colon dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Colon thows a body shot but no joy.
Santiago Colon seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Colon swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Colon throws a low kick but it's checked well by Fayth.
Fayth takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Colon throws a hook but Fayth avoids it easily.
Colon misses with a right hand

and Fayth counters with a nice double leg into side control. Colon won't be happy with that.
Colon is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Fayth seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Colon trying to hold on to Fayth's head to control him but Fayth postures up.

Fayth is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Colon gets full guard.
Fayth throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Fayth won't allow Colon to sweep him here.
Fayth wants to control from the top but Colon keeps moving.
Fayth lands a couple of elbows.
Fayth looking to pass the guard.

Colon looking for a sweep. Not yet Colon, not yet.
Fayth passes Colon's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Colon is looking to improve his position.
Ray Fayth overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Colon is looking to control Fayth's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Colon avoid being mounted?

Fayth seems to be working for a kimura but Colon defends the submission attempt.

Fayth passes to full mount!
Fayth prevents Colon from getting the reversal.
Fayth raining down shots from the mount!
Colon felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Colon is squirming around, avoiding Fayth's attempts to control the action.
Fayth seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Colon is holding on tight.
Colon is in all sorts of trouble here.
Colon tries to hold on but Fayth postures up.

Fayth working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Colon looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Fayth! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ray Fayth!
A very excited looking Ray Fayth made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
Santiago Colon was interviewed post fight and said 'Ethan beats me down yet again O_O'.
