PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrey Chepurnov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Pan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peter Pan will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andrey Chepurnov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Peter Pan!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Saam Ante and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Chepurnov lands a lovely overhand right.

Chepurnov has managed to clinch.
Chepurnov misses with a body punch.
Pan working aggressively here.
Chepurnov's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
A left hand lands to the body for Chepurnov.
Chepurnov keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Pan's efforts to push away.

Pan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Chepurnov shoots in and bounces Pan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Chepurnov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Chepurnov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Chepurnov is looking to work some ground and pound but Pan has wrist control.
Pan has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at WarZone Elite. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Chepurnov throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Chepurnov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Chepurnov's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Andrey Chepurnov has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Pan checks the leg kick nicely there.
Pan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Chepurnov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pan is fending him off so far but Chepurnov persists. Nope, Pan circles away and we're back to standing.
Pan misses with an uppercut. Chepurnov saw that one coming.
Pan keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Chepurnov.
Chepurnov rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Pan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Pan throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
No joy there for Pan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Chepurnov shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Chepurnov throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Chepurnov misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Chepurnov connects with an inside leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Pan, as that shot connected.
Chepurnov gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Chepurnov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pan's waist but Pan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Chepurnov off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrey Chepurnov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chepurnov just misses with a punch to the body.
Chepurnov takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Pan moves away from the strike by Chepurnov.
Pan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
No joy there for Pan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Pan thows a left - swing and a miss!
Pan lands with an overhand left.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pan throws a hook but Chepurnov avoids it easily.

Pan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Chepurnov engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Chepurnov forces his way into half guard.
Chepurnov tries to pass the half guard into mount. Pan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Chepurnov takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrey Chepurnov dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pan misses with a series of wild punches.
Pan misses with a few strikes there.
Chepurnov looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Pan misses with a jab, cross combination.
Pan jabs Chepurnov to the body, keeping him at a distance.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Chepurnov here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Chepurnov misses with a looping right.
Pan swinging wildly here.
Chepurnov tries to land a front kick but Pan steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Pan waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Chepurnov.
Good exchange - Pan coming out on top.

Chepurnov keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Pan.
Pan misses with the combination.

Chepurnov drives through with a takedown into guard.
Chepurnov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Pan is looking to stand up but Chepurnov isn't so interested in that idea.
Chepurnov is looking to work some ground and pound but Pan has wrist control.
Chepurnov slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Andrey Chepurnov wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Chepurnov throws a hook to the side of Pan's head but Pan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Peter Pan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chepurnov throws a big shot that misses.
Peter Pan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pan looks to score with a jab to the body but Chepurnov is just out of range.
Pan connects with a jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pan throws the left hand but Chepurnov avoids the punch easily.

Chepurnov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Chepurnov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Chepurnov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Chepurnov is working hard here to advance position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pan can do anything to dispel that myth.
Chepurnov is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Andrey Chepurnov wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Chepurnov on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Chepurnov changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pan looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Chepurnov happy to just control the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrey Chepurnov dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Pan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Chepurnov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chepurnov somewhat.
The fighters circling - Pan throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Pan connects with a crisp jab.
Chepurnov scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pan doesn't seem bothered though.
Pan pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Pan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chepurnov circles away quickly and effectively.
Chepurnov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pan defends it nicely.
A shot to the body from Chepurnov misses
and Pan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Pan might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Pan looks to land a combination but Chepurnov avoids it well.
Pan moves out of range of the body kick from Chepurnov.

Chepurnov throws a hook to the side of Pan's head but Pan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Chepurnov fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Pan is out of range.

and Pan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


Chepurnov is rocked!
Peter Pan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pan looks to land a combination but Chepurnov avoids it well.
Oh Chepurnov is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pan moves in close and cracks Chepurnov with a massive right hand! Chepurnov, frozen momentarily in time, tumbles to the canvas, already out cold! A brutal knockout by Pan!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:12 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Peter Pan!
