Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Backstrom avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Backstrom will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hovimaki lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Backstrom shoots in looking for a takedown. Hovimaki tries to sprawl out of it but Backstrom keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hovimaki manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hovimaki connects with a good right hand that stumbles Backstrom. Backstrom circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Hovimaki is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Hovimaki throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Backstrom on the side of the head.

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Backstrom might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Hovimaki has got the better of the exchanges.

Mikko Hovimaki is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Niklas Backstrom comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
