PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Watson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddy Maiden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Watson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is 50 Cent - The Funeral. Maiden is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Walk. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eddy Maiden!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left lands for Watson.
Maiden moves out of range of the body kick from Watson.
Watson misses with a head kick.
Watson lands a nice looking body kick.
Watson tried to score with a low kick but Maiden checks it.
Maiden uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Watson.
Maiden tries to clinch

and Watson counters by moving into the clinch.
Watson misses with a hook from the clinch.

Maiden manages to break the clinch.
Maiden lands with a cross.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Maiden has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We've been told by Watson's head coaches at Consortium Private LA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Maiden throws the left hand but Watson avoids the punch easily.

Maiden takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Nice takedown defense from Watson. No joy for Maiden on that attempt.

The fighters circle momentarily. Maiden darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Maiden slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Watson stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Maiden.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Maiden crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Watson - the referee stops the clock and Maiden gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Watson. Maiden manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
