PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rhett Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benjamin Jacobsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jacobsen has chosen Shit by Future as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rhett Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Benjamin Jacobsen!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Columbo Gatti and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jacobsen darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jacobsen in particular looking to stall.
Ray is not content to let Jacobsen control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Benjamin Jacobsen.

Ray clinches up with Jacobsen and pushes him back against the cage.

Ray manages to break the clinch.
Jacobsen lands a slapping body shot.

Jacobsen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ray sprawls well initially but Jacobsen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jacobsen trying to control from Ray's half guard. Ray has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Jacobsen trying to control but Ray is working from the bottom.
Jacobsen looking to sit in guard and control but Ray gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ray won't allow Jacobsen to sweep him here.

Jacobsen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ray trying to control the position from guard on top but Jacobsen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jacobsen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ray is controlling him.
Jacobsen is adopting a defensive guard.

Benjamin Jacobsen has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Jacobsen looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Jacobsen has taken the fight to the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Ray - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Jacobsen works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Jacobsen is fighting to break Ray's control of his arms but Ray is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ray is on top in guard.

Jacobsen has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Ray has passed into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Jacobsen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ray napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Ray wants to control but Jacobsen postures up.

Jacobsen tries for a kimura but Ray is defending well.
Jacobsen wants to control but Ray is keeping him busy.

Jacobsen goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ray has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Jacobsen but great work by Ray.

Ray is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jacobsen is looking to advance position but Ray won't allow it.

Ray might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jacobsen wants to control from the top but Ray keeps moving.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Benjamin Jacobsen wasn't active enough on the ground.
Ray tries to clinch up
and Jacobsen counters with a two punch combo.

Jacobsen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jacobsen is breathing heavily.

Jacobsen is looking to take a break and control but Ray is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jacobsen swings around for an armbar but Ray sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Jacobsen's guard.

Ray landing with the ground and pound.
Jacobsen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ray is one step ahead there.
Ray controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Jacobsen isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Ray stacks Jacobsen on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Ray!

Jacobsen is trying to control Ray's posture but Ray avoids it.
Jacobsen is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Jacobsen wants to get back to full guard but Ray has mounted him!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jacobsen sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Benjamin Jacobsen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ray.
Ray tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Jacobsen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ray to the mat! Ray manages to get full guard.
Jacobsen's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Ray wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Benjamin Jacobsen was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ray shoots in looking for a takedown but Jacobsen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ray's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Jacobsen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ray, pushing him back against the cage.

Ray is fighting off a takedown attempt but Jacobsen is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Ray to the mat. Ray regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Ray shoots in but Jacobsen avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Ray is looking to regain half guard here but Jacobsen keeps moving and retains side control.

Benjamin Jacobsen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Ray is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The referee warns Ray that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Jacobsen is trying to control here but Ray has managed to regain half guard.
Rhett Ray has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Jacobsen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
