PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Walt Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jasha Swan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jasha Swan will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Walt Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jasha Swan!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Swan connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Swan misses with a series of wild punches.
Swan throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Swan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Harris shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Harris is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Harris avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Swan keeping moving, preventing Harris from controlling successfully.

Harris in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Swan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Harris defends well.

Harris definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Swan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Swan wants to stand up but Harris manages to regain full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Swan wants to stand but Harris is controlling his posture from full guard.

Harris manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Swan is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Harris throws a half hearted mid kick.
Harris takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Swan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Swan throws a head kick but Harris moves out of range.
Harris moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Swan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Harris manages to avoid it.
Swan scores with a jab to the head.
Harris really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

A momentary lapse in concentration from Swan enables Harris to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Swan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Harris is keen to just control but Swan is a slippery customer.
Swan regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Harris.

Swan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Harris throws a strike but Swan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Harris has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Harris has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Swan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Harris is looking for a triangle but Swan pushes his legs off easily.

Swan wants to stand but Harris is controlling his posture from full guard.
Walt Harris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jasha Swan wasn't active enough on the ground.
Harris slips a jab and a cross from Swan.
Jasha Swan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Swan stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Swan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Harris is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Swan manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Swan is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Harris regains half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harris is pressing down on Swan's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Harris fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Swan to the ground. Harris is now in Swan's guard.
Harris wants to pass the guard but Swan is keeping the position.
Harris might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Harris distracts Swan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Harris slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Harris with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Harris stands up over Swan, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Harris throws an elbow that misses. Swan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Harris's guard. Nice move by Swan!

Harris is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Harris has Swan pulled in close to control his posture.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Swan drops back, looking for a kneebar! Harris looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Harris looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Harris!
Harris in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Jasha Swan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Swan is rocked!
Harris controls the position from side control.
Harris cracks Swan with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Harris immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Swan is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Harris!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Walt Harris!
After the fight, Walt Harris was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
