PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Eugenio Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocky Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Eugenio Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rocky Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Day shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnson sprawls well. Johnson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Day gets slowly back to his feet.

Johnson pushes Day up against the cage in a clinch.
Day could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Johnson successfully pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Day defends it easily.
Johnson is trying to control the position but Day postures up.
Johnson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Day's guard.

Day is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Johnson defends well.

Day looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Johnson has picked Day up and slammed him! Day can't keep hold of the triangle and Johnson manages to pass to side control!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Day manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Johnson is looking for a sweep. Day is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Johnson is trying is best to control the position here.
Johnson tries to get to full guard but Day has control of the leg.

Day is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Johnson defends it well.
Johnson trying to hold on to Day's head to control him but Day postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson wants to improve his position but Day is controlling well.
Johnson wants to control but Day is keeping busy.

Day wants to work for an arm triangle but Johnson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Johnson is pressing down on Day's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Day is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Johnson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Johnson uses his free foot to push down on Day's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Day.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Day working to try and regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson landing strikes from the mount.
Johnson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Johnson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Day can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Johnson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Johnson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Johnson controlling the position easily from mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rocky Johnson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Johnson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Johnson is trying to control. Day wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Day won't allow Johnson to pass to mount.

Johnson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Day has managed to free his arm - good work.

Johnson maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Day could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Johnson has cracked it and Day is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Johnson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rocky Johnson!
