PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Johan Velasco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richie Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewis has chosen Immigrant Song as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Johan Velasco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Richie Lewis!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Wagner Zegers and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasco swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Lewis lands with a slapping head kick.
Lewis misses with an attempted mid kick.
Velasco fails with an attempt to clinch.
Lewis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lewis throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Lewis throws a half hearted mid kick.
Lewis scores with a head kick. Velasco tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Lewis lands with a slapping head kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lewis looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Velasco tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lewis was well out of range. Poor timing from Velasco.
Velasco checks a leg kick.
Lewis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Lewis has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Velasco avoids a kick to the body.

Lewis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lewis swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Lewis throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

and Velasco counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lewis walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Velasco checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Lewis tries a low kick but Velasco avoids it.
Velasco tries to clinch but Lewis moves out of range.
Velasco tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Lewis throws a leg kick but Velasco sees it coming and moves out of range.
Velasco fails in his attempt to clinch.
Velasco uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lewis.

Velasco fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lewis, pushing him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Velasco misses with an elbow over the top.
Lewis blocks an elbow strike.
Lewis takes an elbow to the temple.
Lewis on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Velasco definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Velasco lands an elbow just above Lewis 's eye.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Velasco throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Velasco looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Velasco throws an elbow that misses.
Lewis dodges an elbow strike from Velasco.
Lewis blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Velasco looks to throw an elbow but misses.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Velasco for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
A frustrated look appears on Lewis's face as he tries to break the clinch.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Johan Velasco.
Lewis scores with a kick to the body.
Good standup being displayed there by Lewis as he connects with a hook.


It looks like Johan Velasco has been cut.

Lewis misses with a kick to the body.
Lewis tries a head kick but it misses.
A jab lands there for Velasco.
Lewis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Velasco darts in trying to clinch
and Lewis counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lewis lands with an overhand left.
Lewis thows a body kick. Velasco tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Velasco has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Lewis.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Velasco tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lewis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Lewis blocks the elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lewis lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Lewis lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Velasco blocks a head kick by Lewis.

Lewis lands a big head kick that sends Velasco tumbling to the mat! Lewis takes a step backwards and waves Velasco back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Velasco is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lewis lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Velasco falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Richie Lewis!
A less than humble Richie Lewis misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
