PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vincenzo Calliente (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rex Richards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rex Richards told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 31 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vincenzo Calliente!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 29 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Rex Richards!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Jonathan Paton and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calliente throws a nice looking combination but Richards bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Richards ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A solid leg kick lands there for Calliente.

Richards blocks a low kick nicely.
Vincenzo Calliente seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A punch combination from Calliente misses.

Calliente fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Richards sprawls well initially but Calliente persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Calliente is keen to just control but Richards is a slippery customer.

Calliente is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Calliente slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Richards has his foot on Calliente's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Calliente works his way back into a safe position though.

Richards has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Calliente can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Calliente is really struggling to control Richards but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vincenzo Calliente dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Richards is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Calliente off and has taken his back!
Richards is trying to stick to Calliente's back but Calliente is turning into Richards. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Richards's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Calliente.

Richards is looking to cinch up a triangle. Calliente throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Richards's body to avoid the submission. Richards has instead reached around Calliente's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Richards arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Rex Richards!
