PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oscar Knockout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ziggy Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Oscar Knockout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ziggy Cooper!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooper moves away from the strike by Knockout.
Knockout showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Cooper.
Knockout blocks a jab.
Knockout feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Coopers jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!


It looks like Ziggy Cooper has been cut.
Knockout waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Cooper.
Cooper throws a hook but Knockout blocks it.
Knockout lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Knockout avoids the body shot from Cooper.
Knockout lands a jab-cross combination.
Knockout lands a jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cooper is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Knockout.
Cooper fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Knockout is out of range.

Knockout throws a lazy right hand but Cooper sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Knockout lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Knockout stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Knockout wants it to stay on the feet.
Cooper missing with a left hand there. Knockout was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Knockout throws a big shot that misses.
Cooper rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Knockout moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Knockout tries to bum rush Cooper with a series of wild strikes but Cooper uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cooper throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Knockout on the side of the head.
A lazy left from Knockout finds it's target.
Knockout lunges at Cooper with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Cooper's hand.
Knockout is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Knockout connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


That has opened up Ziggy Cooper's cut even more.
Cooper tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Knockout was well out of range. Poor timing from Cooper.

and Knockout counters with a slapping leg kick.
Knockout takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Knockout throws a shot from downtown. Cooper moves away and avoids it.

Cooper manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Knockout on his heels. He'll look to pass Knockout's guard now, I'm sure.
Knockout is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at BEVA Fight Home that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Cooper ducks under a wild hook from Knockout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cooper. Knockout does a little dance to reset his feet.
Cooper fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Cooper throws a looping overhand right but Knockout ducks down to avoid it.
Cooper is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Cooper takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Cooper lands with a hook. Knockout tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Cooper attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Knockout throws a lazy right hand but Cooper sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cooper throws a right hand that Knockout ducks under and follows up with a left that Knockout also avoids with ease.

and Knockout counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Knockout throws a poor cross that misses

and Cooper counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Knockout wants to stand but Cooper is controlling the position.
Cooper postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Cooper distracts Knockout with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Knockout has momentary wrist control but Cooper slips an elbow through the middle.

Cooper seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Cooper postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Knockout is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Cooper, into his guard.

Knockout wants to get up but he can't break Cooper's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Cooper has his hands on Knockout's head, controlling the position.
Knockout knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cooper on the ground.
Knockout wants to stand but Cooper has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Cooper controls Knockout momentarily but Knockout frees himself.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ziggy Cooper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Knockout fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Cooper checks it well.

Knockout throws a hook to the side of Cooper's head but Cooper sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Knockout displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cooper throws out the jab.

and Knockout counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cooper's knee momentarily.

Knockout fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cooper.

Knockout does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Oscar Knockout is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Knockout wants to get back to his feet but Cooper is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Knockout trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
