The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DePloi slips a jab and a cross from Marenia.

Marenia looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
DePloi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Marenia takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Marenia wants to take a breather but DePloi is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Rayvan Marenia.

Marenia is keen to just control but DePloi is a slippery customer.

DePloi is not content to let Marenia control the position.

Marenia is working for a submission of some sort.
DePloi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marenia is working away from the top position though.

DePloi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Marenia pulls his head out easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like Marenia might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

DePloi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Marenia pulls his head out easily.

Marenia is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Marenia looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Marenia passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for DePloi!

DePloi can't escape the position.
DePloi holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Marenia tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Marenia tries to control but DePloi wriggling away.

Marenia is going oldschool here, as he tries to force DePloi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so DePloi shrugs it off.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Marenia got a little sloppy there for a moment and DePloi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marenia has managed to get both his arms back between DePloi's legs - danger averted.
