Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Goler Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pedro Ortega!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ortega.
Joe shoots in for a double leg but Ortega sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Ortega gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ortega controls Joe momentarily but Joe frees himself.

Joe drops back looking for a leg! Ortega is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ortega manages to kick Joe off! Joe jumps back into Ortega's guard.

Joe thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ortega wants to stand up but Joe is controlling him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ortega really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Joe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Joe is really struggling to control Ortega but he's trying to hold on to the position.

We're going to have a standup here because Goler Joe wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Ortega moves in looking to clinch but Joe pushes him off.

Joe shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ortega napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Ortega tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Joe goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ortega has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Joe but great work by Ortega.

Ortega must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Joe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ortega's guard.

Ortega has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Joe stays in close to Ortega's body and controls the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ortega wants to get back to his feet but Joe is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ortega shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Joe as he jumps to the side.
Ortega scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Joe misses with a few strikes there.

Ortega can't do much from the bottom here.
Ortega tries to bench press Joe off him but Joe keeps the position.

Joe wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ortega, who protects the arm well.

Joe is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ortega knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ortega is trying to get back to his feet.
Ortega is breathing heavily.
You can see the frustration on Ortega's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ortega is working to avoid the ground and pound but Joe connects with a decent elbow.

Joe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ortega keeps working.
Joe advances to mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Joe looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Ortega is trying desperately to improve position.
Goler Joe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ortega is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Joe locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Ortega is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Goler Joe!
