Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Charles Benedict!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jonatan Jose!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Bart Greer and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jose misses with a lunging right hand
and Benedict counters with a good low kick that Jose was not able to check.
Benedict lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Benedict explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Benedict is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Benedict shoots in looking for a takedown but Jose manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Benedict's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Benedict connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Jose momentarily.
Jose is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

We've been hearing reports that Benedict has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Jose takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Jose tries to close the distance and clinch but Benedict swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Benedict wants the takedown. Jose is fighting it off but Benedict persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jose's guard against the cage.

Jose wants to get back to his feet but Benedict passes into half guard.

Jose takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Jose fails in his attempt to clinch.
Benedict lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Jose takes a body punch but keeps moving.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Jose crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Benedict - the referee stops the clock and Jose gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Benedict. Jose manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Jose shoots in for a takedown but Benedict shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
We've been informed that Jose has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Benedict dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jose. That did some damage!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jose can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jose wants to improve his position but Benedict is controlling well.

Jose is looking to control Benedict's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jose avoid being mounted?
Benedict is taking a breather. Jose says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jonatan Jose.
Benedict swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Jose.
Jose misses the shot to the body.
Jose fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Benedict connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Jose shoots for a double leg takedown but Benedict sprawls well. He's pushed Jose's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Charles Benedict has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonatan Jose.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jose doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Benedict lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jose has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jose and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Good leg kick by Benedict there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Jose is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.

and Benedict counters with a nice leg kick.
Jose shoots for a double leg takedown but Benedict sprawls well. He's pushed Jose's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jose tries to score a power double leg takedown but Benedict sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jose somewhat.

Jose is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.

Jose feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Benedict has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jose can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Benedict is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Jose rolls with it to try and escape but Benedict cranks on the arm and Jose is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
