PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tod Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor O Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tod Riggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor O Belfort!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Luis Engracia and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Riggs drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Belfort is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Riggs has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Belfort taking punishment in the form of punches.
Riggs will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Riggs cracks Belfort with a big right hand but Belfort just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Belfort wants to get back to his feet but Riggs drags him back down.
Belfort is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Riggs is chipping away with strikes.

Riggs working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Riggs wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Belfort, who protects the arm well.
Belfort is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Belfort tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Belfort is trying to stand up.
Riggs controlling the position easily from mount.

Riggs with shots to the head and body - Belfort looks very uncomfortable down there.
Riggs has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Belfort's face.
Riggs looking to control and managing it successfully.
Riggs won't let Belfort get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Riggs controlling the pace for now.
Belfort takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Belfort is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Riggs breaks from Belfort's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Riggs's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Belfort shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Riggs but Riggs pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Belfort darts in and clinches Riggs up against the cage.

Riggs has picked Belfort up - he's going for a ride! Riggs dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Belfort on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Riggs stops Belfort from getting back to his feet.
Riggs landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Belfort tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Riggs manages to move to mount!
Belfort is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Belfort is breathing heavily.

Riggs lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Tod Riggs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Belfort is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Riggs cracks Belfort with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Riggs lands a big shot there that rocks Belfort but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Riggs controlling the pace for now.

Belfort wants to get back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Riggs looking for a guillotine from mount but Belfort is having none of it.

Belfort tries to buck Riggs off but he can't manage it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tod Riggs dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Riggs closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Riggs lands a decent elbow from side control.
Belfort is looking to get back to his feet here but Riggs is keeping cool and he's managed to take Belfort's back.
Riggs punishes Belfort with strikes from the back mount.
Riggs scores with punches to the body.
Riggs has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Belfort's body.

Riggs lands a shot to the body.
Riggs really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Belfort is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Riggs scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Belfort controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Belfort takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Riggs lands an elbow to the side of the head.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Riggs has Belfort flattened out and is raining down punches.
Riggs is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Belfort trying to get back to his feet but Riggs is in full control for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee is taking a good look at Belfort as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Riggs!
Riggs just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Riggs has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Belfort defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Riggs lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Belfort is trying to get back to his feet but Riggs has full control of the position and if anything, Belfort has just worked his way into a worse spot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Belfort is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Riggs gets his way!
Belfort is trying to stand back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tod Riggs showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Riggs, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
