PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Daniel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Basilone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniel comes to the cage accompanied by Remember The Name - Fort Minor. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chuck Daniel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Basilone!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Basilone misses
and Daniel counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Daniel uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Basilone.
A swing and a miss from Daniel.
Daniel checks the leg kick.
Basilone does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Daniel just misses with a punch to the body.

Basilone closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Basilone moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Daniel sneaks back into half guard.
Basilone seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Daniel wants to control but Basilone is keeping busy.

Basilone wants to free his trapped foot but Daniel is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Basilone content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Daniel is trying to stand.
Daniel wants to improve his position but Basilone is controlling well.
Basilone really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Daniel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Daniel slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Daniel manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Daniel avoids the attempt from Basilone to control.

Basilone is squirming around, avoiding Daniel's attempts to control the action.

Daniel misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Basilone can do anything to dispel that myth.
Basilone is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chuck Daniel.

Basilone bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Daniel tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Basilone wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Daniel is trying to control Basilone's posture but Basilone avoids it.
Daniel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Daniel is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Basilone off and has taken his back!
I really don't envy Basilone right now.

Daniel is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Basilone knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Basilone for a finish.

Daniel has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Basilone.
Daniel cracks Basilone with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Basilone from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Basilone wants to control his opponent's hands but Daniel gets his hands free.

Daniel is persistently looking for the submission but Basilone is defending it well.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Daniel's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Daniel keeps control of the position as Basilone tries to break free.
Basilone looking very determined here, making life difficult for Daniel.

Basilone is covering up but some of the strikes from Daniel are getting through and doing damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Basilone is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Daniel.

Basilone scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Daniel doesn't seem bothered though.

Let's hope that Basilone has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Daniel wants to control but Basilone postures up.
Daniel is looking to regain half guard here but Basilone keeps moving and retains side control.
Basilone throwing strikes but Daniel manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Chuck Daniel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Daniel is looking to take a break and control but Basilone is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Daniel postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chuck Daniel.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Daniel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
